Girard Perregaux Sea Hawk – a diving watch from tradition-rich company
The company Girard Perregaux with headquarters in La Chaux-de-Fonds ranks among the most renowned and oldest manufacturers of Swiss watches. In 1850, Constant Othenin-Girard opened his own watchmakers' workshop which was renamed into Girard-Perregaux in 1856. From the beginning, the young company focused on the manufacture of superbly accurate chronometers. It gained industry-wide and international recognition, among other things, because of awards in chronometer competitions of the Observatory Neuchâtel as well as through gold medals at the Paris world exhibition in the years 1867 and 1889. With the latter, the famous pocket chronometer with the 3-bridges movement and a tourbillon was awarded which up to now is considered to be an important milestone in watchmaking history. The company's' successful growth made it possible in 1906 to purchase the manufactory Bautte and Moynier that was existing since 1791. Further technical highlights in the brands' history is the wristwatch with gyromatic movement that was presented in 1957, the first mechanical high-frequency movement with the description Chronometer HF that won the centenary prize for chronometry awarded by the Observatory in Neuchâtel in 1966. It was the first industrially produced quartz watch in Switzerland in 1970 as well as the worldwide smallest quartz movement in 1978. After a break of about 20 years, Girard-Perregaux has also manufactured mechanical watches again since 1989. Calibres by the brand operate, inter alia, also in models by Audemars Piguet or Gucci.
Distinctive and extremely robust Sea Hawk diving watch
Already since the 1940ies, Girard-Perregaux has manufactured watches with the description Sea Hawk. As part of the GP Hawk Collection, the addition "Sea" makes the aviation watch a diving watch and the falcon an osprey. The modern chronographs with the addition "Sea" impress by an enormous resistance and as well by its distinctive appeal. The latter is owed to the characteristic alignment of the concept and the size of its stainless-steel case with a diameter of 44 millimetres. The Sea Hawk is available in various colours, for instance with silver, blue or black dial or with blue or black rubber watch strap. Its automatic calibre offers a power reserve of 46 hours and with a waterproofness up to a pressure of 100 bar or 1.000 meters depth it is not only suitable for scuba divers but also for professional divers. Typical features of a diving watch such as the unidirectional rotating bezel and large, well readable hands and indexes with luminous coating are a matter of course for diving luxury watches in this category.
