Edouard Heuer established the company named after himself in 1860 in Saint-Imier in Switzerland. Barely two decades later he started the serial production of timepieces and received the world's first patent for a stop watch mechanism. A short time later, the oscillating pinion was following which is still used by many well-known watchmaking companies today.
Timekeeping at the Olympic Games and other sports events
After the first cockpit chronographs for vehicles in 1911 the label launched the first stop watch in the world which could measure time with an accuracy of 1/1000 seconds. So the company quickly became the official timekeeper of Olympic Games and ski races. Even the first timekeeper with tide indicator display date back to the innovative company. After the quartz crisis, the owner-managed company Heuer was sold to the Techniques d'Avant Garde and the label Tag Heuer was born where one family member is still honorary president today.
