With the Oris Carl Brashear Limited Edition, the tradition-rich brand from Hölstein takes its place alongside those manufactures of Swiss watches that supplemented their collection by a model with bronze case in the past years. Of the Carl Brashear, only 2,000 copies are manufactured. The Oris Diving special model is dedicated to an extraordinary diver. Carl Maxie Brashear lived from 1931 until 2006 and did not only become famous as the first Afro-American diver of the US Navy but also as the first certified diver who carried out his job also after an amputation. Since 1948, he served the navy and there he did numerous diving jobs which included repairs and also bomb disposals. In 1966, he was seriously injured when he recovered a bomb and which required the amputation of a lower leg. For Carl Brashear, however, this was not a reason to stop the beloved diving. He trained intensively a whole year long until he was able to continue his service as an active diver again. Even after the end of his active career, he remained a demanded diving expert and advisor who was showered with numerous awards and honours.
Oris Divers Carl Brashear Limited Edition – a chronograph with special individuality
With the Diving-special edition dedicated to Carl Brashear, Oris has created a chronograph that has become a unique specimen within the course of time thanks to its bronze case. It is equipped with stop function and subsidiary second, offers luminous indexes and hands as well as a screwed crown and a navy-blue dial. The case diameter is 43 millimetres. The Carl Brashear special edition is fitted with a leather watch strap which pin buckle is also made of bronze. The automatic movement of calibre 771 has a power reserve of 48 hours. With a waterproofness of 100 meters, the special model namely is not a real diving watch but it can be left on the wrist while swimming, bathing or showering without problems. A special edition that is waterproof up to 300 meters can alternatively be found in the Oris Diving Aquis Clipperton Collection. Maximum depths that require up to 1000 meters of waterproofness are possible with the ProDiver Chronograph series by the brand.
