Seiko: Attractive designs & affordable prices

Kintaro Hattori is the founder of Seiko, which is Japanese and can be translated with the word “precision”. What started out in 1881 as a retailer for watches form Switzerland, turned into one of the very first manufactories for luxury timepieces in Japan. At that time, the name was chosen for a company, which today is known worldwide for their highly attractive price-performance ratio. They first entered their role as technological trailblazer, when they released a collection of Quartz clocks in 1962, which they had been developing since the late 1950s. Because those designs were huge, clunky and cost about as much as a limousine, the "mechanical opposition" didn't really take them seriously – which should come back to haunt them in the 1970s, when the industry got hit by the Quartz Crisis and many manufacturers had to close their business. Seiko, on the other hand, kept their role as technological pioneers and confirmed it in 1975, when they released the world's first titanium diver watch.

Luxury timepieces which combine both – elegance & sportiness

The watches that stand out the most amongst the Seiko collections have to be the models sporting the Kinect Direct Drive Calibre. This is a Quartz movement that, not unlike an automatic one, uses the wearer´s motions to wind up the watch. But also watches without these intricacies are just as good. Available for women and men, these luxury timepieces by Seiko will draw attention with their long list of features, such as waterproofness, small seconds, or luminous hands and dials. Others models sport power reserve indicators, moon phases, perpetual calendars or different time zones. The visuals are just as varied and attractive: coloured or diamond-studded bezels, casings in ceramics, stainless steel or gold as well as wristbands made from leather or natural rubber.
