Watches by Tag Heuer – Tradition and patents
Edouard Heuer founded his company in Saint Imier in 1860 and moved to Biel with his manufactory in 1867. In 1882, he received the first patent for his stopwatch mechanism and only five years later, he invented the oscillating pinion which is still used. In the hands of his sons a stopwatch was registered for patent approval in 1916 - precise up to the second - as the first in the world. Thus, it is not surprising that Heuer was official timekeeper at several Olympic Games and ski races. Stopwatches for race cars as well as yachting watches with tide indicator were following. In 1985, the family-owned business was sold to Techniques d'Avant Garde, in short TAG, and Tag Heuer was formed. The current collections consist of new editions of classics from earlier years as well as technical and design innovations making clear that the manufactory still ranks among the best in the world.
