A top-tier Japanese watch manufacturer

The brand established its legendary status at the Swiss chronometry competitions in the 1960s. Year after year, the precision of the Japanese timekeepers increased, until in 1968 in Geneva they took seven of the first ten places, overshadowing the mechanics of their domestic competitors. In 1988 came the first Grand Seiko watches with quartz drive, whose accuracy of +/- 10 seconds per year overshadowed everything that had come before. The manufacturer achieved its greatest revolution in 1999, when, after more than 28 years of development, hundreds of prototypes, and countless setbacks, Spring Drive technology was born. It combines a mechanical mainspring with an electronic regulator and is the only watch technology in the world that lets the second hand glide across the dial without interruption.

Uncompromising manufacture quality

Every Grand Seiko is developed, manufactured, and tested 100 percent in-house through a testing process that far surpasses the standards of the Swiss COSC. Two production facilities are responsible for these peak achievements: while the Shizukuishi studio specializes in the production of mechanical watches, the assembly of the quartz and Spring Drive models takes place at the Shinshu studio. Every step - from the production of in-house hairsprings to the unparalleled polishing of the hands - is carried out by experienced craftsmen, who perfect all 200 components of an average Grand Seiko down to the hundredth of a millimeter.
