The name is said to derive from the fact that one evening Favre-Jacot stepped outside and looked up into the starlit night after having just completed a new movement that seemed to him better made than all his previous works. At the sight of the heavens, the celestial mechanics reminded him of the interplay of wheels and pinions in a watch, which prompted him to name both the movement he had just finished and his company after the zenith, the highest point in the sky. Ever since, the manufacture has used a five-pointed star as its logo. A particular high point in its company history – and beyond that in the history of the entire watch industry – is January 10, 1969. On that day, Zenith's watchmakers were the first in the world to present a series-ready automatic chronograph movement, which under the name El Primero is still produced and used today, mainly for the Zenith Chronomaster series.
