Rolex GMT-Master II – Concise and memorable
Around the year 1900, Hans Wilsdorf from Kulmbach went to La Chaux-de-Fonds in Switzerland where he found work in an import and export business. However, he wanted to realise his own ideas and so he established his own business in 1905. Contrary to the tradition at this time, he was the first who had his company name stamped on the watches instead of his last name. Also the idea to print the name on the dial was a complete break in style. But Wilsdorf knew that his name was a tongue-twister in the English speaking regions why he invented the word Rolex. There are various attempts to interpret the world, but Wilsdorf never revealed the actual meaning. However, it is true that the watches have an identifiable design – like for example the Rolex GMT-Master II.
