From military to classic: The success story of the Fifty Fathoms

France in 1953: The renowned military unit of undersea divers desperately required a functional watch which could surpass the impermeability of previous editions. After several rejections from bigger companies, a small Swiss factory accepted the challenge and was able to impress the whole industry with the final outcome. This was due to the fact that the new Fifty Fathoms - the name was supposed to emphasize the original impermeability of fifty fathoms (91,45 m) – turned out to be a pioneer of its time creating a base with inserted nuts, an antimagnetic automatic clockwork and a particular crown seal. Shortly after, the watch was utilized by British, US-American and Israeli military units.

The following decades enrichened the variety of models of the time pieces immensely while the watches continued to surpass existing boundaries. The highlight is the current diver family from Le Brassus which was introduced in 2007 for the first time. Consequently, there is not only the famous Blancpain Fifty Fathoms Bathyscaphe but also the high-end model Tourbillion 8 Jours which belongs to the exclusive range of products.
