In 1917 the Schlup brothers opened a watchmaking manufactory in Lengau, Switzerland. From 1958 Schlup & Co. began to launch their watches under the name "Rado". Only four years later they celebrated their breakthrough by launching the world’s first scratch-resistant timepiece called DiaStar. Within the following decades, the manufacturer of luxury timepieces pointed the way by a whole series of superb features. Amongst others, the development of a special high-tech ceramic, which is used since the 1980s, was a highlight. Apart from that, Rado received an innovation award for the application of polycrystalline diamonds in their production. As diamonds possess the highest hardness grade of all materials, timepieces with that kind of plating are particularly robust. Since 1983 the company belongs to the renowned Swatch Group.
