Nomos Glashütte – quality from a traditional location
In 1990, the photographer Roland Schwertner chose the city Glashütte in Saxony as a location for his watchmaking brand Nomos. The former silver mining town has become famous worldwide since the middle of the 19th century when high-quality manufactories for exclusive watches set up their business there. In 1992, the first collection of Nomos Glashütte, consisting four different basic timepieces called Tetra, Ludwig, Tangente and Orion, hit the market. Whilst they assembled Swiss movements in the beginning, the manufactory uses self-made movements since 2005. Therefore, the company complies with the guidelines for bearing the term “Glashütte” in their name. For this, at least 50% of the material has to be produced in the Saxon town – Nomos goes one step further and manufactures between 75 – 95% in Glashütte. The fancy watches, which are developed in an old railway station, are in a class of their own.
