Back in 1735, Jehan-Jacques Blancpain set up a small watchmaking manufactory in his own house in Villeret, Switzerland. Thanks to the prompt success of his creations, the brand soon became known as guarantor for finest Haute Horlogerie, which perfectly masters combining the tradition of ancient watchmaking art and modern innovations. The success continued throughout generations in the family. Starting in 1815, the first serial production of timepieces was established under the direction of the great-grandson Frédéric-Louis Blancpain. More than a century later, in 1926, the label cooperated with John Haywood and launched the first wristwatch with an automated self-winding mechanism. Furthermore, the company received an order from the French Military in 1953 to design a mechanical diving watch that featured a one-sided adjustable bezel that could be used to display diving time for the unit of undersea divers "Les Nageurs de combat".
