Chopard LUC Full Strike – Watchmaking art at the highest level
Chopard ranks among the most renowned Swiss watch brands and is world-famous for its luxurious jewelry and jeweler's works. Louis-Ulysse Chopard had already established the tradition-rich company with headquarters in Geneva in the Swiss Jura town Sonvilier in 1860. In 1963, the German watch manufacturer and jeweler Karl Scheufele purchased it from the 80 years old Paul André Chopard, a grandson of the founder. The founders' initials are present in the collection up to now and characterize those watches where manufactory calibers are used that were developed by the creator himself. These have been manufactured and developed since 1996 in the company-owned manufactory in Fleurier. In total, about 3.000 LUC movements are produced annually which are entirely certified as chronometers by the Contrôle officiel suisse des chronomètres (COSC). Numerous models from the LUC Collection are also characterized by the use of special high-quality materials such as, for example, gold and by particularly sophisticated complications. LUC Full Strike – The first watch with minute-repeating by Chopard
The Full Strike from the LUC Collection, the first watch with minute-repeating by Chopard, was presented to the public in November 2016. Occasion for this extraordinary creation was the twentieth anniversary of the company-owned manufactory. The minute-repeating is considered to be one of the most sophisticated complications ever as the watchmakers have to ensure a well audible, pleasant sound when manufacturing in addition to the reliable function. In the case of the Full Strike, not only these challenges have been overcome but at the same time several innovative, technical solutions like the gong spring that is forming a unit with the cover of sapphire glass and the two barrel springs were developed. The latter provides a power reserve of 60 hours and a twelve-times beat of the repetition without intermediate wind-up. These exclusive Swiss watches have a glass bottom and an open dial for free sight to the repetition mechanism. A double display of the power reserve for the movement and the repetition are placed at the two. Besides the fact that the movement of the LUC Full Strike certified as chronometer is assembled of 533 single parts, the timepiece with in total only 11.5 millimeters height and a diameter of 42.5 millimeters is by no means massive but a distinctive dress watch – albeit in a completely different way – such as watches from the Chopard Classic line.
