Oris – an amalgamation of elegance and technique

More than 110 years ago, the brand Oris was established by the enterprise Lohner & Nägelin in Hölstein, Switzerland. In the early 1930s the company manufactured about 7.000 timepieces per day which were sold to Europe, New Zealand and China. In the 1960s, Oris ranked amongst the biggest watchmaking companies of Switzerland but was hit hard by the Quartz Crisis in the 1970s – just like many other renowned watchmakers. First, the label was taken over by the ASUAG (General Swiss Watch Industry AG) up to that day in 1982 when Dr. Portmann and Ulrich W. Herzog took over responsibility and founded a new business. Regardless of the still prevailing hangover due to the Quartz Crisis they were one of the first manufactories turning the focus back on traditional mechanics and watchmaker's art. Oris watches are, amongst others, famous for their guilloche dials.

While the company first concentrated on masculine sports watches, also sporty-elegant ladies' timepieces were developed.
