Oris Culture – Story with Happy End
The company Oris was already established 110 years ago. In the beginning, it was a subsidiary firm of Lohner & Nägelin but Oris became an independent brand very soon. Only 30 years after the foundation the company already manufactured approximately 7.000 watches per day which then was a very considerable performance, in particular because the timepieces were mainly made by hand. Customers from all over Europe, Asia, New Zealand and South America were inspired by the wonderful timepieces. Then again 30 years later, the brand ranked among the ten major watch manufacturers in Switzerland in the 1960ies but then the quartz crisis came. Many well-known companies, including several manufacturers from the luxury timepieces segment, got into trouble and had to file for bankruptcy. Oris was sold to ASUAG and was forced to produce inexpensive watches until Dr. Portmann and Ulrich W. Herzog re-established the company in 1982.

The straps of the Oris timepieces are in an altogether classic sense. Stainless steel, partly in bi-colour look, and leather in different colours is used for the Culture series.
