The history of Oris, named after the Orisbach, began in 1902 as subsidiary of Lohner & Nägelin in the Swiss Hölstein. They manufactured watches and alarm clocks that mainly attracted the attention by their sportive design and the high-quality. But when the quartz crisis severely harmed the company as well as many other traditional companies, it seemed to be the end of the brand. The idea and the company were rescued by Dr. Portmann and Ulrich W. Herzog who practically reestablished the company. They paid special attention to masculine sportive watches in the series Oris Culture, Oris Motor Sport, Oris Aviation.
