Oris Aviation – A tradition of sports performance

The company Oris that got its name from the Orisbach was originally only conceived as the subsidiary firm of Lohner & Nägelin but soon it became an independent business. At that time, the center of attention was on sportive watches and alarm clocks that were well received thanks to their high quality. This is why Oris manufactured about 7,000 watches and alarm clocks per day in the 1930ies and sold them worldwide, from Europe to China and from New Zealand to South America. In the 1960ies, Oris even ranked among the 10 major watch manufacturers in Switzerland and had more than 1,000 employees. During the quartz crisis, the company was sold and was to be closed due to poor book values. But Ulrich W. Herzog and Dr. Portmann re-established the luxury label and again concentrated on sportive watches which they grouped into different fields, such as, the Oris Diving, Motor Sport or Aviation collection.

Not only for flying fans – the Aviation

The Oris Aviation collection comprises very different lines which are all characterized by certain features. The material used for the round cases is always stainless steel, partly in bi-colour; the straps are made of leather, rubber and stainless steel, again partly in bi-colour. The dials are not only attracting attention in white, black and grey but also with multiple complications and displays. The subsidiary or central second is just as included as the date and day display. But the timepieces from the Aviation collection, depending on the model, also calculate the lunar phases for you and are furnished with second time zones, luminous hands and indexes. On top of this, the Aviation models are available with screw-retained crowns, compass and degree-scale. With these feature, the timepieces inspire all fans of technically sophisticated timekeepers with an elegant, partly fancy design.
