Watchmaking art with a tradition of almost 170 years
The Glashutte Original Senator Edition, the Pano Edition and of course the Lady Edition Collection are part of the Saxon watchmaking company Glashutter Uhrenbetriebe GmbH. It was established in 1845 by Ferdinand Adolph Lange in the town Glashutte which was shaped by silver mining. Thanks to the financial support of the Saxon state government, Lange was able to hire miners and straw weavers in order to train them as watchmakers. The concept was a total success and this was a major step forward in the company's development. Famous watchmakers like Julius Assmann and Adolph Schneider came to Glashutte in the 1850ies where meanwhile internationally popular timekeepers were manufactured. Around 1865, the company was causing a stir with a precision pocket watch that was part in the range nearly unchanged for more than 80 years. Given the strong demand for the quality timepieces from Saxony, the "German watchmaking school Glashutte" opened in 1878. Here, gifted technicians learn the high school of horology and make themselves a name with groundbreaking inventions. The Original Lady Edition was launched in 1927 and inspires the ladies with masterly collections. Finally, in 1951, almost all watch companies merged into a large corporation, called VEB Glashutter Uhrenbetriebe (GUB). Now, the manufacturing of high-quality watches is booming. After the German reunification, the company became a limited company. From that time on, mechanical timepieces from the Lady Edition and other series were manufactured under the label "Glashutte Original". When the manufactory became the property of Alfred Wallner and Heinz W. Pfeifer in 1994, the success story got a further increase with the redesign of the product range and the higher quality of the cases. Since 2000, the highly recognized global brand has belonged to the Swatch Group AG.
